Queen Creek, Arizona, a town renowned for its family-friendly atmosphere and commitment to community development, has celebrated the grand opening of its most ambitious park project: Frontier Family Park. This sprawling 85-acre recreational oasis opened its gates on June 8th, 2024, and delivers diverse amenities designed to foster active lifestyles, exert inclusivity, and enhance the quality of life for all who enter its bounds.

A Playground for Everyone

At the heart of Frontier Family Park lies a truly unique and inspiring feature: an inclusive playground that redefines the concept of play for individuals of all abilities. Designed by J2 Engineering & Environmental Design, this playground is a testament to Queen Creek’s commitment to inclusivity. The playground’s thoughtful design incorporates ramps, sensory play areas, adaptive equipment, and engaging features that stimulate physical and cognitive development. Whether a child uses a wheelchair, has sensory sensitivities, or enjoys exploring new play methods, all can have fun together.

Sports and Recreation: A Haven for Athletes and Enthusiasts

Frontier Family Park is not just a playground; it’s a sports enthusiast’s dream come true. With an impressive array of lighted sports fields, courts, and facilities, the park caters to a wide range of interests and skill levels. Three lighted multi-purpose fields provide ample space for soccer, football, lacrosse, and other field-type sports. In comparison, six lighted baseball/softball fields with 315-foot fences will delight baseball and softball players of all ages.

Pickleball enthusiasts will rejoice at the sight of twenty-four lighted pickleball courts, the first of their kind in Queen Creek. These courts are poised to become a hub for the growing pickleball community, offering ample opportunities for casual play and competitive tournaments. Additionally, two lighted sand volleyball courts and two lighted basketball courts round out the park’s sports offerings, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Beyond the Fields: A Multitude of Amenities

In addition to its impressive sports facilities, Frontier Family Park offers many other amenities to enhance the visitor experience. A picturesque 5-acre fishing lake provides a serene setting for anglers of all ages. Ten picnic ramadas, including two corporate ramadas, offer shaded retreats for family gatherings, birthday parties, and company picnics. Two large-group picnic ramadas provide ample space for more significant events and celebrations, making Frontier Family Park the perfect venue for community gatherings of all sizes.

A Park with a Vision: Looking to the Future

Frontier Family Park is more than just a collection of amenities; it reflects Queen Creek’s forward-thinking approach to community development. The park’s design and construction envision creating a space that fulfills current residents’ needs and anticipates a growing community’s future needs. With ample parking, accessible pathways, and a commitment to sustainability, Frontier Family Park is a beloved destination for generations to come.

The Next Chapter: Recreation and Aquatic Center

As impressive as Frontier Family Park is today, it’s just the beginning. An ambitious Recreation and Aquatic Center is under construction and will open in the spring of 2025. This state-of-the-art facility will expand the park’s offerings and provide a hub for indoor sports, fitness, and aquatic activities.

The Recreation Center will feature basketball/volleyball/pickleball/multi-use courts, a fitness floor with various exercise equipment, fitness rooms for group classes, a large conference/event room, multi-use classrooms, a teen room, child watch services, and more. The Aquatic Center will boast a competition/lap pool for swim teams, lessons, and lap swimming, a zero-depth entry play pool for families with young children, a lazy river for relaxation, slides for thrills, and a dedicated space for birthday parties.

A Community's Pride: Frontier Family Park's Legacy

Frontier Family Park represents a significant milestone in Queen Creek’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents. By providing a space where people of all ages and abilities can come together to play, learn, and connect, the park fosters a sense of community and belonging that will undoubtedly leave a lasting legacy for generations. Whether you’re a sports enthusiast, a nature lover, a family seeking a fun day out, or someone looking for a peaceful place to relax and recharge, Frontier Family Park has something to offer everyone. It is a shining example of a community creating something extraordinary.

Homage To The Original Frontier Family: The Barney's

Frontier Family Park is a testament to modern recreational development and a tribute to the Barney family, the original pioneers of Queen Creek. The park proudly features a memorial bench dedicated to the late Mayor Gail Barney, who served the community for 24 years, 12 of those serving as Mayor. A statue of his parents, Newell and Katherine Barney, further immortalizes the family’s legacy as pillars of the community. Their unwavering commitment to the growth and prosperity of Queen Creek is in the park’s dedication to fostering family togetherness and community spirit. The Barney’s enduring contributions to the town’s history and development are thus forever enshrined in the heart of Frontier Family Park.
