The Town of Gilbert all began with its namesake William “Bobby” Gilbert. He, in 1902, sold a right-of-way through his land to the Arizona Eastern Railway. The Town of Gilbert sprung up to life around the track’s spur line near a rail siding on Bobby Gilbert’s property.
