Thanks for tuning in to the World of Arizona podcast network. I’m Amber and this is 7 things this week, May 27th, 2019. I have to say I am personally bursting with excitement about the events this week! Let’s jump in…
Okay, I know we already did a Memorial Day day edition of 7 things BUT it’s Memorial Day and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention one more event happening on Monday, May 27th. I mean come on, we have the day off and it’s Monday don’t ya know! So, starting out in Queen Creek, Arizona, the Queen Creek Olive Mill is hosting Memorial Day Grill at the Mill from 11 am to 3 pm. Enjoy your Monday off with live music, cornhole, bocce ball, Olive Oil Tours, The Pit Bar & Grill and more. At the very least, you’ll be just chillin’ outside basking in the amazing Arizona weather. Pretty much can’t go wrong with that!
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes. That’s right, RENT is coming to Tempe at the ASU Gammage starting on Tuesday, May 28th with performances running the whole week through Sunday, June 2nd. This Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning, iconic musical masterpiece is celebrating its 20th Anniversary Tour and is sure to delight audiences. How do you measure, measure a year? I promise their rendition will be much better than my little excerpt!
San Tan Valley is helping us get our outdoor exercising fix on this week with a Morning Hike with the Saguaros at San Tan Mountain Regional Park on Friday, May 31st from 7 am to 9 am. Trek a 4 to 5 mile moderate hike through the park, guided by the ranger and encounter beautiful saguaro and other cactus blossoms. Aww, how sweet does that sound?
This week in Mesa, Arizona we will be transported to different worlds and times, inspired and entertained by the KJZZ Arizona Storyfest & Authors Showcase on Saturday, June 1st from 10 am to 4 pm. This is a free fun-filled family friendly event featuring storytellers, characters and authors. (goodness, that was a lot of “F-Words”) Anyway, where did I recently hear that storytelling was one of the most important things in the world? Oh yes, the epic series finale binge of Game of Thrones.
Chandler, Arizona is helping us get our Latin groove on with Alejandra Guzman in Concert at Wild Horse Pass Hotel and Casino this Saturday night, June 1st starting at 8 pm. Alejandra is a Mexican singer-songwriter, actress and musician, who has been entertaining audiences for nearly 30 years. In 2002, she won the Latin Grammy for best female voice of rock for her album SOY. Alejandra is also a judge on Telemundo’s tv series first season of ‘La Voz’, a singing competition for aspiring Latino singers. Si, por favor!
Okay, you may not believe this next one on the list, but it’s true, Phoenix is hosting Unicorn Festival. Yes, you heard me right, the beloved mystical creature we all know and love with be on full display at Unicorn Festival being held at Outlets at Anthem on Saturday, June 1st from 11 am to 4 pm. This is sure to be a truly magical experience for the whole family, complete with an Enchanted Garden, Princesses, a Petting Zoo, Fairies, Mermaids, face painting and of course Unicorns. Okay, there might be an Amber sighting at this one.
And rounding out our list for this week, in Phoenix, Derek Hough Live! Will be dancing his way into our hearts at Comerica Theatre this Sunday, June 2nd starting at 7:30 pm. In case you didn’t know, Derek Hough is best known for his role on the mega popular hit show Dancing with the Stars, as the only six time champion in franchise history. Derek is also an Emmy Award winner for Best Choreography, as well as his most recent role as a judge on NBC’s World of Dance. This is the first ever solo tour for Derek and I have no doubt he is sure to wow the audience with his incredible dance prowas and of course woo his fans with his infectious energy. Umm, yes please.
And that’s a wrap! Thanks for listening to 7 Things This Week, a World Of Arizona Podcast series. See you next week, and remember, more information on all these events can be found on worldofarizona.com. Bah-bye!
